Pay-at-Table

Upgrade to the new Shift4 SkyTab Mobile payment devices while retaining all functionality you currently enjoy, including point-to-point encryption (P2PE).

Pay-at-Counter

Upgrade to new Shift4 counter-based devices while your server experience remains unchanged.

Eigen xDine

All xDine functionality will remain supported and integrated with Squirrel including integrations with Doordash, UberEats and SkipTheDishes. The transition to Shift4 payments behind xDine will be transparent.

Gift

Shift4 supports the majority of gift cards supported by Eigen. Specifically, the Shift4 Skytab Mobile terminals can transact at the table to GiveX, Fiserv and the Eigen Gift Cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I move to Shift4 and Squirrel what will change in my current operation?
Squirrel and Shift4 have done the work to ensure as little as possible changes. Here are the changes you will experience operationally:
  • You will be provided with new, modern Shift4 SkyTab Mobile payment devices. Your servers and guests will use these devices instead of your current wireless devices.
  • You will be provided with new Shift4 counter-based devices. Your guests will use these new payment devices. Your servers will continue to use the Squirrel POS interface to initiate payment at the counter.
  • Your payment processor relationship, billing and reporting will move to Shift4.
I was told Squirrel does not support Shift4 in Canada?
This was true at the time of the Shift4/Eigen acquisition. Squirrel has since worked with the Eigen/Shift4 teams to provide support for Shift4 payments in Canada.
Will the Eigen xDine product continue to be supported?
Both Shift4 and Squirrel have committed to supporting the xDine online ordering product.
I have already signed a contract with Shift4, do I need to contact Squirrel?
Yes. Squirrel needs to order new parts for the Squirrel-Shift4 solution to work. The Squirrel professional services team will also be the team scheduling and performing the upgrade.
Does the Squirrel/Shift4 tethered or counter solution support chip & sign?

In Canada this is not supported nor allowed. All guests use wireless pay-at-table devices to pay. In the US this model is supported by Squirrel and Shift4. However, Squirrel highly recommends moving to a wireless pay-at-table model as it significantly simplifies your end-of-day operation, reduces chargebacks and increases server tips. Now is a good time to make this move. The Squirrel team are experts in this workflow and can guide you through any questions you have. 

What if I have not decided on moving to Shift4?

What is involved in the upgrade and how long will the upgrade take?

Most sites can be upgraded in less than 4 hours remotely by the Squirrel professional services team. Squirrel will update the payment software on the Squirrel host and ensure all the new Shift4 pinpads are configured and transacting. 

Will I need to re-train my servers on how to use the Shift4 wireless pinpads?

Although the pinpads are new and the software running on them is slightly different, your servers will find the workflow is almost identical. Squirrel and Shift4 will provide a short training video on the differences.
